Fannin County General Election Results

The News Observer has a link to election results. Based on past elections, they should start populating the lists with data after 7PM as the precinct returns roll in:

The races to watch are the Fannin County Commission Chairman and the Fannin County Post 1 Commissioner. If Proctor and Ledford win, we should finally have beer & wine being poured in Fannin County restaurants (minus the City of Blue Ridge) in the very near future.

UPDATE - 7:42PM: results are starting to trickle in…with 6 of 14 precincts reporting it’s not looking good for both Mr. Proctor and Mr. Ledford.

9 of 14 precincts reporting: both of them are down by 1200 votes each.

12 of 14 precincts reporting: unless the absentees kick in (to which they didn’t for some odd reason for the referendum), both Proctor and Ledford will lose by well over a thousand votes each. Usher-in your new 100% evangelical county commission for the brown bag tourism capitol of the world.

UPDATE - 10:32PM: absentees have been folded in, it’s over:
Total (with 14 of 14 precincts reporting)
Tommy Ledford… 4175
Garnett P. Webb… 5971

Total (with 14 of 14 precincts reporting):
Jerry Proctor… 4092
Bill Simonds… 5928

CNN Money cites Blue Ridge as prime spot for fall colors

It’s easy to think that the Deep South, with its mild fall weather, might not be the best option for foliage fanatics.

But the leaves eventually turn color in this region just as they do elsewhere - and this small town of 1,000 less than two hours north of Atlanta, is a prime mountainous spot for seeing nature’s paintbrush at work.

CNN Money - 5 spots for fall foliage

And so it goes, again…

This is crazier than the general election but no surprise to those of us that live it every day. After last month’s flip-flopping unanimous “No”, the Blue Ridge City Council was surprisingly set to bring the pouring ordinance up for yet another vote tonight, and it seems the votes were there without having to threaten the mayor’s re-election chances with his tiebreaker. Although I’ve heard before that he would do that, I’m now hearing he won’t allow it to come to a vote unless he knows he will not have to be the tiebreaker.

For a first (that I’ve heard), several merchants were even planning victory parties for tonight so it must have been a sure thing (as far as that goes in this town). However, the long arms of righteousness reached out to one of yes votes, and I guess rather than taking a gutsy stand or to be seen as flip-flopper yet again, he decided to abruptly resign his seat on the council today. So no voting will take place tonight and most likely there will not be another vote (for the City of Blue Ridge) until at least March of 2009 when elections are held to fill his seat.

Can we finally get some spine on one side of council come March?

added: the coalition of the willing is going to the meeting tonight anyway (7PM - City Hall) , though obviously our brave cock-fighting mayor will shelve it now that it’s reportedly a 2-2 tie.
