We have always had good luck dealing with Tica Cabin Rentals.

VanessaOctober 20th, 2006 at 3:00 pm

Try Moutain Laurel Cabin rentals. They are exceptional! Some of the cabins even allow you to bring your pet.

The Last Resort is awesome. We have stayed there several times, variety of cabins at very reasonable rates, wonderful people!!!

Stayed at Tica Cabin Rentals in October for our first visit to Blue Ridge. Wow! What a beautiful cabin and great customer service. They even had a welcome gift basket in our cabin when we arrived. Their prices are about the same as the other cabin rental places but they were much friendlier on the phone. Helped us make arrangements for things to do while in Blue Ridge. We will be back over the Christmas holidays!

I forgot to give you the Tica Cabins website address in my comments above. Look at ticacabins.com It is a very user friendly site with lots of good pictures.

Chris and his wife Tanya have a wonderful cabin in Blue Ridge. It’s 3 bedrooms and really luxurious.

Their site is bella-vista-lodge.com

ConnieJanuary 15th, 2007 at 12:40 pm

I think we stayed at Bella Vista lodge. That’s the one with the screened in porch with hot tub and fireplace? That’s what sold us on that and the Bear’s Den.

We stayed at Bella Vista and some family stayed down the street at the Bear’s Den Cabin. They have the screened in porch with hot tub and fireplace too. We had such a great time and are planning on making it a yearly thing! The kids loved having their cousins “next door!”

I definately recommend both cabins especially if you are doing a family reunion and need more than one place.

The Last Resort has a wonderful variety of log cabins. We are going back again in 6 weeks. The hot tubs are indoors so you are not affected by bad weather, yet the hot tub rooms have windows you can open to enjoy the outdoors and the mountain views. No up charges. Family owned. Very, very private. Check out the pictures of some of their cabins on the web. This is just a hand full of cabins available. Just a wonderful resort.

My husband and I went on a weekend getaway for our anniversary. I contacted Tica Cabins to make a reservation. My requests were as follows:

Cabin with one level
Jacuzzi Bathroom
Private
Kitchen

The lady told me that there were other cabins around, but that it was still private. She also informed me that we could burn firewood, which I thought was GREAT and romantic.

I paid more in fees: cleaning fees, administration fees, etc, than I did for one nights stay, but I’m aware that is their policy and since I wanted a nice weekend away, I just went with the fees.

Upon arrival and after a very short time in the cabin, I became very disappointed.

1) The jacuzzi tub could not keep water in it the drain plug was broken and was very frustrating as this is something my husband really enjoys on our getaways.

2) This was a two level cabin, which we could have dealt with, but there wasn’t a bathroom on the bedroom level. My husband is a senior citizen and his knees are bad. We get up through the night and the steps were too dangerous for him to walk down during the night. So I brought the king mattress downstairs and we slept with the mattress on the floor.

3) Pine straw was covering the chimney which would have been a fire hazzard if we had started a fire. All of the other cabins around didn’t have as much pinestraw, and we were worried about fires, so we weren’t able to use that either.

4) PRIVATE is not the word I would describe where we stayed. The cabins were right up on each other and no one in their right mind would have called this private. We could hear the neighbors dog barking all night long.

5) The refrigerator was running and making noise the entire stay. NOT romantic

6) The microwave took an hour to cook 2 pieces of bacon. This should be replaced if you are going to offer cooking in the house.

As you can see there were several things wrong. The most frustrating were the jacuzzi, the bed upstairs, and the fireplace.

My daughter called the office for me on Saturday morning and reported all of the problems. They told her we could switch cabins, which we wanted to do. They then informed her, that there weren’t any other comparable cabins with a jacuzzi and one level so we just stayed where we were. They told my daughter at first that I could leave the mattress on the floor, but later recanted and said I would have to tote the mattress back up the steep stairs or they would CHARGE me extra money.

My daugther explained to them that my husband was older and had knee problems, I am 52 myself. They said they were sorry, but that would need to be put back. My daughter also explained to them that it was our anniversary and that we were really disappointed at all of the problems.

They said the maintenance man would be by within 10 mintues to fix the tub. When we arrived back at the cabin they guy hadn’t been there. I called the office and told them not to worry about sending someone, it would be ok. We wouldn’t use the tub.

It’s our anniversary for goodness sakes, who wants people coming over????

A few hours later, just as we were getting undressed to watch a movie, they show up. My husbands puts his clothes back on and they come in to fix the tub. They couldn’t fix it, gave excuses and I told them it’s fine. We weren’t going to use.

They left. A little while later, the woman came back with a plus. I didn’t let her in and just told her we didn’t need it and Goodbye.

It was really ridiculous and rude to come back over when they knew we were trying to make the best of a horrible situation.

I didn’t want a complete refund, just some sort of discount for the problems. We had to deal with TOO MANY things going wrong, for them to charge us the full amount. But they offered us nothing. they wouldn’t even let us leave the mattress downstairs as they knew the situation and I had asked for a one level.

AmandaJanuary 29th, 2007 at 11:56 am

I do not recommend this company. My mother and father went here for their anniversary and the jacuzzi tub didn’t work. You could use the fireplace as it was clogged with pinestraw.

My mother requested a one level because my father is older and has bad knees and they put here in a two level with no bathroom on the bedroom level. She actually brought the mattress downstairs and they slept onthe floor.

When I called to complain they said she’d have to tote the mattress back up stairs or they charge her more fees. She had already paid more in fees than it cost to stay one night. FEES too high, bad service and rude people. More problems, too many to list. This is not a place to stay for ederly people. BEWARE!!!!

Solitude cabin is by far the most luxurious cabin we’ve ever stayed in. Professionally decorated yet cozy and comfortable. The view of the Blue Ridge mountains from the deck is incredible. Very peaceful and secluded—that’s why it must be named Solitude

Michelle VargeFebruary 8th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

We’re planning a family trip to Blue Ridge this summer and we’ve narrowed our choices down to about 3 cabins. Told the kids they could have the final say so we’re waiting for them to make the final decision.
We did google in Solitude and must say it looks amazing!
It has made it to one of our top 3 choices!

By the way, can anyone tell us if there is one particular horseback riding place that is better than some of the others? There seems to be many to choose from and that is one of the things the kids really want to do (they are not experienced riders)!

Sydney HilberFebruary 13th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

My husband and I decided to spend our 10th anniversary in Blue Ridge. We chose The Aska Adventure Lodge and were not a bit disappointed with our accommodations. This place went far and above our expectations. We thought it was beautiful on the website but it was even more amazing in person. I guess you have to be there to really appreciate the entire package. This was our first trip to the mountains and I was nervous about picking just the right place to be luxurious and romantic but also have plenty to do for our two kids (ages 6 and 4) We brought grandma along also who chaperoned the kids when we wanted to escape for some adventure on our own. There is tons of room in the cabin so we were able to have all the privacy we wanted even with granma and the kids downstairs. The owners suite is fantastic with a king bed(very soft!), a huge jacuzzi tub with jets, and a private patio off the bedroom decorated adorably. The whole place looks like it came right out of the pages of some vacation magazine. My kids LOVED it!! They didn’t want to leave. I think the game room was the biggest hit for them and roasting marshmallows on the outdoor fire pit. There is tons of things to do in the area which I think was the biggest surprise to me. I thought you just went to the mountains to relax and enjoy the beauty (which is definitely what we did!…The views from this cabin were stunning!) But I had no idea how much there is to do in the mountains, like the great shopping(the antique stores were definitely worth browsing), hiking, rafting, picking blueberries, mountain biking, we even went on an old timey train ride that took a gorgeous scenic route right through the mountains) I have to say that Blue Ridge is very unique and in case you can’t tell, we really just fell in love with it! I hope to make this a yearly tradition, except instead of doing it for our anniversary I’d like to do a yearly family reunion there. We did all our cooking out on the grill but next time I’d love to try some of the local restaurants? Can anyone recommend some good family style restaurants in that area?

Clara MurzynskiFebruary 26th, 2007 at 2:25 am

My husband and I stayed at the Last Resort cabins during our anniversary earlier this month. It was our first time there and I can’t say enough about how wonderful it was! The cabin was perfect, clean and very romantic. The folks there are wonderful and so helpful. What you see on their website is exactly what you can expect. Do yourself a favor and check it out! We’ll definitely be back…hopefully for Thanksgiving : )

I agree. Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals is awesome. They are not the largest rental company in Blue Ridge but they are the best in my opinion. Nice cabins and exceptional attention to customer service. Their web address is mountainlaurelcabinrentals.com

Thanks.

If you are looking for a luxurious getaway with all the best amenities, these two cabins are it!! They offer amazing 3 state views of NC, GA, and TN from almost 3000ft elevation. The sunrises were unforgettable! Both have large hot tubs and 3 bedrooms 3 baths. Plus extra sleeping with very comfortable futons. They are professionally decorated and each has a pooltable, foosball, air hockey and 42″ LCD HDTV’s. They also have a large party porch with wood burning fireplace and a large dinning table w/ seating for 10. The furniture was very impressive and all handmade by a local craftsman. This is by far the best vacation and views we have ever experienced in the area and we have been to many cabins.
The owners were very accomodating and friendly. We will be back many times- don’t miss these!-They are locatedd side by side so great for large groups or business getaways. Call 678-481-0317 to find out more info.

My husband and I spent our anniversary in Blue Ridge at one of the cabins offered by Premier Cabin Rentals. It was a nice cabin and we enjoyed our stay a great deal. It was a non-smoking cabin, which was no problem, since we smoke outside here at home (with kids you just have to). We took an ashtray and sat out of the back-porch in the rocking chairs provided since smoking was allowed on the porches.

The cabin company called us five days after we checked out to tell us that the cabin “smelled strongly of cigarette smoke” and they were going to keep our damage deposit of $250 because they were going to have to get the carpets cleaned. I KNOW that we NEVER smoked in the cabin. For 15 years we have smoked outside on our own porch, so that is our routine. I understand the the rental company doesn’t know us and has no reason to believe us, but since I know the truth (even though apparently I will be paying anyway), I have to wonder if there isn’t something they needed to fix or buy and our damage deposit was the cheapest way for them to do so.

Sadly, I will never know the truth of that one, but I do know that regardless of how nice the cabin may have been, I’ll never rent from Premier again. I might get blamed for something else that I didn’t have anything to do with.

SteveApril 30th, 2007 at 8:28 am

Kim,

Please do not take this as an attack against smokers - I quit 20+ years ago. I can now smell a smoker when they walk buy. The smoke lingers all over their clothes. The same thing is true with pot smokers. It may be possible for this “smoke residue” on your clothes to rub off on the upholstered furnishings of the cabin. I doubt it would rub off on the carpet but how could anyone tell.

Both of my kids smoke and I can smell them when they come back into my house after they get their fix.

Maybe you did get ripped off. And, maybe there was a little truth to their claim.

Premier Cabin RentalsMay 1st, 2007 at 9:08 pm

Follow up to comment from Kim RE: Premier Cabin Rentals

The cabin was cleaned the day the guests left and we were notified by the cleaning staff that it smelled of cigarette smoke.

Prior to their arrival we had a return guest in the property followed by the cabin owners who were up for the day to add a few items to the property.

We did not notice any smell prior to their arrival and obviously neither did the property owner as they are non-smokers and would have complained loudly - rightfully so.

As I told Kim when I called her on the 4th day, we had tried for 4 days to remedy the problem with every product we have at our disposal to no avail which left us only options that would need to be paid for (up to that point we had spent $27 and several hours of our time gratis.)

We have smokers in our cabins quite frequently and we are aware that the smell lingers and can leave a faint aroma behind in closets, sheets, etc… just from their clothes and bodies, even if they smoke outside. (However, as we had been airing the cabin out for 4 days and using every product we’re familiar with to no avail you can see it was a very strong odor not just a whiff.)

At this point she has not been charged a penny. I simply let her know that we had run out of time to try other remedies as we had guests arriving that day at 3:00 and that, if the smell lingered after their departure, the carpets and bedding would very likely need to be cleaned. (This was done today. She was not yet notified as we have not yet received a bill.)

We spent a great deal of time and effort in order to keep her from paying anything. If our goal was to keep her deposit for some nefarious reason, we obviously would have done so day one.

As you can imagine, a call like this is a very difficult one for us to make as it will definitely end a customer relationship for good.

Thankfully, in the years we have been in business we have been forced to keep only a handful of deposits and usually we are notified by the guest themselves of any problem.

We do a tremendous amount of repeat and referral business so, for the most part, we have very honest, kind and respectful guests who do their best to help us keep our properties in top condition so they can continue to enjoy them in the future as much as the owners do.

Warm regards,

Dan & Gayle Barton

Lisa at Cozy Cove is great. I have a cabin on Lake Nottely called Lake Escape and we continually get wonderful reviews from everyone who stays there.

Lisa’s staff is wonderful to work with and very accomodating. Just 12 extra miles gets you tucked away on the lake in a luxerious 3/3 wood sided cabin with 2 fireplaces and hot tub. We added a dock last year to swim off of, tie up your boat, or just sit and relax on.

Does anyone know who rents out the cabin at 1002 Old Hwy 2 on Fightingtown Creek? I would love to get in touch with them about a holiday rental.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We had a great summer vacation at Tica Cabin Rentals in Blue Ridge and have booked a return trip for the Fall. The staff were very friendly and helped us make arrangments for things to do. We stayed at Rushing Waters Retreat on our previous trip. We have booked Big Sky Lodge which is very hard to get a reservation in because it is always booked but we lucked out and it was available for our dates. These people have been in business for many years and know what they are doing! We recommend them highly. The town of Blue Ridge is a quaint little town with lots of shops and friendly merchants. They made us feel very welcome.

MichaelMarch 27th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

We have stayed at many cabins in Blue Ridge and have been very disappointed recently with cabins that we rented from TICA in regards to cleanliness. There was dirt on the floor, and hair on the floors in the bathroom, and even HAIR in the bed sheets. When we called, they were of course very apologetic, yet when we returned two months later——-the exact same thing again. To me talk is cheap. Keep your properties clean! Has anyone else had these experiences with them?

Ron MisamoreMarch 31st, 2008 at 11:45 am

I would not recommend Tica Cabin Rental Company as a Rental Property Managemetn Co to any cabin owner; nor to any cabin rental guest. They represented our cabin for 3 months recently and I suspect them of major improprities associated with telling the property owners “these booked guests for your cabin cancelled out at the last minute” and “your cabin was rented to complimentary guests as a promotion and marketing tool”. These techniques are strong indicators of potential fraud and ways to decieve property owners even though Tica’s on web site calendar for the Property Owners cabins showed exact dates of reserved bookings. Yet, when monthly rental income was paid to the Property Owner, it represented only 3 or 4 days of rentals. Furthremore, the cleaning services provided to Property Owners by Tica were sus-standard and our cabin was never cleaned properly.

HeatherMay 28th, 2008 at 5:55 am

I know what you mean about the premier place. some companies up there don’t really give you that “southern hospitality” when you check in or they act like they are doing you a favor.

I AGREE ABOUT MOUNTAIN LAURAL CABIN RENTALS. THEY ARE SUPER NICE PEOPLE, AND MAKE YOUR STAY THE BEST THEY CAN.
THEY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SECLUDED CABIN CALLED SERENITY AND IT IS A GREAT ROMANTIC CABIN WITH A HOT TUB AND A VIEW TO DIE FOR. WE LOVE IT!

I agree. We fell in love with a beautiful, secluded cabin called Serenity. It is on 21/2 acres with a view to die for! The cabin is beautiful and has a firepit, little waterfall fountain and hot tub.
We will go back again and again.
Mountain Laural Cabin Rentals are super nice people, and very accomadating. We love Blue Ridge !

terriAugust 7th, 2008 at 11:40 am

I guess maybe I don’t understand something. I don’t know if there is more to the story or not, but if you feel you were “ripped off” by having been charged $25 for them to return something to you that you left, then I guess I don’t understand what you would have wanted them to do so you wouldn’t have felt ripped off, and especially to call them “crooks”. If I had left a camera in a rental cabin, I guess I would feel lucky to know that it was turned in and that someone went to the trouble to even get it back to me. Did they mail it back to you, or did you pick it up at the office? I don’t know where you frequent on vacations, but I have been many places, both here and overseas, and if you leave something you are lucky to get it back at all, especially something as nice as a camera. I lost a brand new one years ago here in the States and was so disappointed, but not surprised, that it was not turned in as a Lost and Found item. On the contrary, we have had nothing but exceptional experiences with the folks around the Blue Ridge area. Just this week, we recieved an envelope in the mail. We had been to the Lowe’s in Murphy, NC and evidently a check dropped/blew out of our truck cab…a rebate check that we both had already endorsed to deposit. A wonderful person from that Lowe’s mailed the check back to us, saying it was found in a rainstorm in the parking lot. That kind of honesty and integrity is becoming nonexistent in many places, but we have had similiar experiences of honesty and “doing the right thing” in this area, and that is why we built our cabin and will be soon retiring to live there. Unless there is more to the story than you have told, I will be priveledged to live amoung “crooks” like this. How much would it have cost you to replace your camera? The one I lost was over $200; I would have gladly paid $25 for not only the value of the camera, but for the photos that I lost of times spent with my foreign exchange student and other memories in that camera. Just curious too, to wonder where do you live?

PattySeptember 25th, 2008 at 6:34 am

I believe you are right! We have had our cabin listed with Tica for a year and I understand there are people renting it all the time. When I can get a statement from Tica, which is about every 4 months and I have to call them to get it……it doesn’t seem to reflect what I am hearing from neighbors. Very poor business management. I get all kinds of stories as to why they haven’t mailed me any statements. It usually involves the bookkeeper getting married or being out sick. I guess they don’t have anyone else that can do any bookkeeping. I will say the cabin is always clean but unfortunately, there is more to it than that.

BradOctober 5th, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Hello everyone. I’ve read alot of good and bad experiences and good and bad rental companies here and i just wanted to tell you about a secluded 3 story cabin rental in the Blue Ridge area. The name of the cabin is Bearly Rustic and is located in the Hidden Hills “subdivision”(not really a subdivision, just called one) passed the Morganton area. Its my mom and dads cabin and I help with upkeep of the place as they live in FL. The cabin is secluded on top on the mountain with a beautiful view. It has 3 stories, with a bathroom plus shower on each level and a game room in the basement. The loft contains the master bedroom/bath along with a family room with tv, couches, etc. The middle floor has a bedroom, bathroom, laundry room and kitchen along with an area with a couch and gliders for relaxation. The cabin has an outdoor rock fireplace with a seating area. Also has hot tub on basement level. The website for the cabin is http://www.comfeecabins.com. It has several photos but they do not do the house justice. If you have any questions about the cabin contact Florie Bailey-706-455-7797. I hope you decide on this one because you will not be dissapointed.

I was so surprised to read the negative comments regarding First Class (formerly Premier) Cabin Rentals. I dealt with them for over a year regarding a rental and can’t sing their praises loud enough. They were quick to respond to questions and information requests both by phone and email and did so very pleasantly. The woman we checked in with was delightful and indulged the high spirits of our group of eight adult family members looking forward to our week in the mountains (October 11 through October 18, 2008). The cabin exceeded our expectations as did First Class Cabin Rentals.

Each cabin has antiques and a fully furnished kitchen. We provide towels, and all bed linens and access to onsite laundry room. About all you need is your fishing pole, mountain bike, skis and camera.

We have stayed with First Class/Premier 7-8 times over the years and have always had great stays. My wife and I both smoke (outside) and have never been questioned or charged because of it. We will be staying with them again next month.

In regards to Tica Cabin Rentals………Where do I begin……….They are the property management company for our cabin in Blue Ridge Georgia. They have been an absolute nightmare. Per their contract they are to run two months behind with their accountability. We are now 5 months in arrears and going on our 6th. The excuses are plenty, marriages, illnesses, weddings it is truley is incredible!!!. They subsidize their own company with the money they receive from the cabin owner properties and then not pay the cabin owner. I finally (hooray) received a check for a very small partial payment of $500.00 and when I deposited it into our account it bounced 5 days later.
Thelma, the owner of Tica cabin rentals wonders why my husband and I are upset. We have had a renter in our cabin for the last 6 months straight and why we appreciate the business our costs have increased dramatically with no payments to offset it. We have now contacted an attorney. Tica cabin rentals is in rears with us for $5000.00.

We recently stayed at Escape to Blue Ridge and had a wonderful experience. So much that we are staying with them again this summer. We come every year during winter and summer and enjoy the two seasons. Their reservationist was very helpful and extremely accurate in her help with our selection process and I was shocked with the nice gift they welcomed us with on our arrival.

Jazzy,
My husband and I are planning a trip to the mountains in May. It will beour first experience and we are extremely nervous. I am currently looking into 2 companies (Escape to Blue Ridge and Premier). Question: What cabin did you stay in and what are your thoughts?
Thanks!

STAY AWAY FROM TICA CABIN RENTALS!!!!!

THELMA AND GREG COFFONE ARE CROOKS. After months and months of their lies, they finally agreed to pay us and agreed to a payment schedule. They have stopped paying after only paying 500 dollars.

Suzanne KrauseJuly 21st, 2009 at 11:49 am

We are having the exact same problem with Tica Cabin Rentals, Inc. We own a cabin in Hiawassee, GA and they owe us for May, June, and now July, rentals. I have posted complaints on Ripoffreports.com and Travelbuddy.com. Thelma responded the day after I posted our complaints. She was very cool, and stated that if we were so upset maybe we should cancel our contract, which we did!! She said our check for May was in the mail and we should have it by the end of the week, which was a lie. They deducted 3 promo nights from our first check for April rentals. Now we are being told that another promo night will be deducted from our May rentals. They provide absolutely no proof that the cabin was rented for promotional purposes. The funny thing is, we rented cabins from Tica for about 12 years and always had a good experience. That’s why we decided to use Tica as a rental management company. Boy, was I stupid!! The cleaning service has been horrible! Our cabin was damaged by someone’s dog and it’s a no-pet facility. They charged us $280 for a “deep-cleaning” when we first listed the cabin with Tica. They never performed a deep cleaning on our cabin and my husband called the manager to come look at the cabin after it was supposedly cleaned. She even admitted that it had not been cleaned properly. They NEVER return telephone calls or email messages. Then, they are offended when something negative is posted. They are RIPPING cabin owners OFF, BIG TIME!! We all need to get together and do something about this company. I’m going to contact Clark Howard and 11-Alive news if we don’t get a check soon.

Bob `July 31st, 2009 at 5:47 pm

Suzanne, I am sorry to hear about your experience with cabin management companies. We own three cabins in Blue Ridge and decided a few years ago to manage them on our own. It is more work but we can provide a better experience for our guests since we are not paying the high percentage. You can email me at info@cabinsinblueridgega.com

I am happy to help you do rental by owner.

FOR CABIN RENTALS TRY VRBO.COM THERE YOU DEAL WITH THE OWNERS OF THE CABIN AND THE PRICES ARE A LOT LESS BECAUSE THERE IS NO MANAGEMENT FEES. GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY BLUE RIDGE!!!!

Patti JAugust 29th, 2009 at 12:15 pm

I have used VRBO for several years without any problems. Most owners supply their home and cell# to use for questions or emergencies that may arise while using their property. I have noticed lately that several ‘owners’ I have contacted about the properties-ranging from ocean-side to mountain view have been answered by management companies-thus resulting in the exact situation you use VRBO to avoid. The website is fair, you can’t search for specifics but always remember to use caution and ask for referrals. Happy Vacationing!

DO WHAT WE DID AND FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE MAGISTRATES OFFICE AGAINST TICA, IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE IF THEY RESPOND, BUT IF NOT I WILL BE TAKING ALL OF YOUR COMPLAINTS TO THE STATE ATTORNEY TO SEE IF THEY WILL CRIMINALLY PROSECUTE THESE SCUM BAGS.

Hey you all

I am planning on moving to the area soon and will be working in the Blue Ridge area. Is there any management services or other you would recommend for house rentals or rent to own?

Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks and God Bless

Don’t use Tica to manage your cabin! They don’t pay you and they use the cabin for their own employees. Many times too many people were in our cabin and damages that were unexplained. Sorry excuse for a management company…STAY AWAY!!!

BrettDecember 14th, 2009 at 11:34 pm

Trevor, did anything come of the magistrates office regarding Tica? They owe me close to 2k and have bounced checks in the past. They won’t email me back…

AnnDecember 16th, 2009 at 9:38 pm

I don’t know how Tica is still in business if that is how they treat cabin owners! This is terrible for these people that got ripped off by that company they deserve to be shut down indefinitely!

KAYJanuary 1st, 2010 at 6:36 pm

Let me know how to file a complaint with the magistrates office or small claim court regarding Tica Cabin Rentals - They ripped us off too!!. They haven’t paid us either. rllott1976@yahoo.com

Tami SteinleJanuary 19th, 2010 at 12:43 am

WOWZA!! So glad I did all the grunt work & decided to manage our cabin myself & not go with a company. Sounds like TICA is a bear! It’s bad enough with this economy but with being ripped off…well, their karma will come back when they least expect it.

I have a cabin….nothing majestic but quiet, clean & secluded and I allow small dogs. If intersted, shoot me an email by just clicking on my name & it’ll take you to my website. BTW…I use VRBO as well as HomeAway & have found them both to bring in some really great guests.

My husband and I took Tica to Magistrate Court in October. We thought we had settled our complaint through mediation. Tica agreed to pay us monthly until we were paid in full. We received payments for October and November. Now they owe us for December and January is due now, too. It’s the same old story all over again. They don’t return our telephone calls. We’ve contacted Thelma’s attorney and he is of no help. I guess the next step is to file a lien against Tica and file for garnishment.

I just can’t understand how these people are allowed to stay in business!

We purchased our cabin in Blue Ridge in September 2009 and signed a contract with Tica Cabin Rentals beginning of November 2009. Tica Cabin Rentals is not communicating with us any more and have furthermore blocked our cabin from being available to reserve since Sunday, January 24, 2010. Consulted with attorney today and took steps to secure property. Would like to hear from other property owners who have had negative experiences with Tica Cabin Rentals and find a way to make the public aware of the things that are going on with Tica Cabin Rentals.

Check out today’s News Observer: Indictment charges Coffones
“Greg and Thelma Coffone, owners of Tica Cabin Rentals, have been charged with theft by taking in breach of fiduciary obligation for allegedly failing to pay over lodging tax collections to Fannin County - taxes estimated by the county to total over $12,000.”

We were with Tica for a year in a half. Our experience was much like yours. promises.. life is difficult..someone’s grandmother sick…brother passed…always a reason why checks were late or bounced. In the end they had all of their employees lie for them. I wondered how in July they had 13 people listed as working for them on their payroll as well as statements we recieved for work but yet were down to 30 cabins. The fees they charged us for damages at our cabin were astronomical. One month we only had one person stay in our cabin, our personal friends, yet I received bills for repairs, which I am sure were never needed. Plus I found out later they charged renters a 40 dollar damage waiver. Then why was I paying for damages? Thelma and greg are crooks and their employees are not much better. They knew what Thelma and Greg were doing. I would also beware of Enchanted Mountain retreat. The sales assoc is one of Tica’s employees listed on the web page. Just wondering if it is the same scan with a different name. You be the judge. FYI - Greg announces for the Fannin high School Football Games. You would think the school could find a better person to announce games, someone who would represent Fannin County the way it should be - honest, trustworthy, and hardworking.

I just cancelled my rental agreement, which I entered into in December 2009, with TICA. I could never get in touch with anyone, and when the check did not arrive, I finally reached Thelma, who advised that they were going into bankruptcy, but would pay me. HAHA! I saw my cabin was rented just about every weekend, yet they claimed to owe me only $626.00, and they charged me $35 for firewood, when I had provided a full pallet of firewood at the inception of the rental. They knew in December they were in trouble; they bad mouthed the other cabin rental company who used to have a TICA name franchise, which is a good rental company, and they falsely induced me to rent with them, after learning I had called them in error, thinking they were the other company. I filed a complaint last week with the criminal investigation division in Gilmer County. I urge each and every individual to do this. (706) 635-4646. Also, if you are served as a creditor in a bankruptcy proceeding, I hope everyone will file an objection to the discharge of the debts, since this seems to be an ongoing thing with them, from what I have read on the internet. Of course, I went online AFTER I was ripped off. I had thoroughly checked out the other former TICA (owned by a fine, well reputed family of lawyers in Atlanta) , now doing business under another name, and they were exceptional. I never should have let Greg and Thelma con me. My cabin was filthy when I got it back. Also a new set of sheets is missing and a few wine glasses were gone. I am lucky that is all that went wrong.

Linda SheffieldFebruary 10th, 2010 at 12:09 pm

UPDATE: Yesterday I received a cashiers check from TICA, only after they were contacted by Gilmer County CID. I was told that the district attorney’s office in Blue Ridge (Fannin Couny) is going to file something concerning the issues surrounding cabin owners not getting paid, and depositors not getting money back. 706 632-2044. Just mention TICA or the Coffones and you will be directed to the detective in charge of this investigation.

SteveFebruary 10th, 2010 at 1:01 pm

Linda,
I wouldn’t be too quick to think you are done with Tica. If the rumors are valid that they are filing bankruptcy, then you may be required to send the money you just received to the bankruptcy court. Payments made within a specified period of time before a bankruptcy filing are considered “Preferential Payments”. These can be legally claimed by the court. I’m not sure how criminal charges are handled if it is determined the money you received was actually money stolen from someone else. Remember Bernie Madoff?

Try Woodsandwaterrentals.com; I have my cabin listed with them and they have been very helpful to me !!

Sorry to hear that people are having problems with Tica. Blue Ridge still a great place to relax and spend time. There are many other management companies and rental cabins offered by owner.

NealMarch 22nd, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Tica is out of business. Another company bought their website. Their office on highway 515 is empty and a for sale sign out front

AudreyMarch 24th, 2010 at 11:51 pm

My wife and I were planning an eight night vacation rental with Tica. This wasn’t our first rental with them, more like our fourth. Anyway, I signed the rental agreement on January 4, 2010. We paid more than half of the rental up front. 1 1/2 weeks before our rental date, the balance had not been processed so I tried to call them, finding all of their numbers were disconnected. Filed a dispute with our bank since we used a Visa logo check card to pay the deposit. If that does not pan out, I plan on using the information listed above to file suit against them for our money.

My husband and I booked a cabin for this coming July back in August 2009. Needless to say after noticing that the website changed and called the current owners of the website, that is when we found out that Tica filed bankruptcy. Thank goodness it was put on a credit card and the company is fighting for the credit.

The best place for cabins is http://www.abovetherestcabins.com

KCJune 16th, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Do not use Mountain Laurel Cabins, they offer things like Wi-Fi and do not follow through with it. And if you complain they just say it is covered by there mechanical failure clause. No offer to move us or anything. The cabin was not clean and expensive. STAY AWAY!!! They pretend to be a Christian Organization but a christian would honor what they advertise.

Teresa Haney-BaileyJune 16th, 2010 at 4:58 pm

I am the owner of Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals and this comment is in response to the comment left by KC. I received a call from KC letting me know that the telephone and WiFi was not working at the cabin they rented. I immediately reported this issue to our local telephone provider. The sent their technician out, and reported back to me that the repair was made. The following day I received another call from KC who reported the telephone was repaired, but the WiFi still was not working. Once again, I immediately reported this to the telephone provider. The technician was dispatched once again, and the repair was made to the WiFi. I am very sorry that KC did not enjoy her stay in our beautiful mountains, but feel that we did everything within our power to repair the telephone and WiFi in a timely fashion. As for the cleanliness of the cabin, the cabin was checked by our Property Manager prior to KC’s arrival and found to be perfectly clean. As for expensive, this is a four bedroom lodge (sleeps 12 people with pull out sofa sleepers) with a pool table, foosball, air hockey, hot tub, two gas log fireplaces, six flat screen TV’s, and a breathtaking mountain view for $250.00 per night! Most people find this to be an exceptional value!
