It’s easy to think that the Deep South, with its mild fall weather, might not be the best option for foliage fanatics.
But the leaves eventually turn color in this region just as they do elsewhere - and this small town of 1,000 less than two hours north of Atlanta, is a prime mountainous spot for seeing nature’s paintbrush at work.

The ideal way to experience it is simply to drive in and around the area, visiting nearby similarly small towns (Blairsville, Young Harris, Hiawassee) or crossing the border into Tennessee (it’s less than a half-hour away), especially the historic copper-mining city of Ducktown.
Be prepared. If you come, you may never leave.
